What brands make lightweight denim? Is “paper denim” a thing?

I like in Kentucky; it’s hot and muggy, but I love my jeans in the Spring, Fall and Winter. Need some summertime jeans that aren’t jorts.

As what i’ve known, Naked & Famous denim produce some Lightweight denims, which vary to only 5oz denim! and yes, paper denim is a thing, and it was produced by Naked & Famous denim too, you can check them out at their site nakedandfamousdenim.com

I’d be all about that 5oz. Seems they either didn’t have much in this years line or it’s gone already. Found some other brands/retailers that said they had ‘featherweight’ or similar but nothing remotely close to the 5oz from what I could tell. 7 Fam even has a category for it but from the looks of it, was just for show lol 7 Fam Featherweight. Any other brands you know of that get close to that kind of weight?

Jeans with tencel in them are lighter. Do many guy jeans have tencel?

  • #273752

Not sure but i’m on the hunt. “Tencel”… just sounds so MANLY lol

  • #273783

and here the word of your denim guru LOLOLOLOLOLOL

as per Cordura, sister brand of Invista Lycra, tencel makes the denim SOFTER, and has nothing to do with light weight.

This is an interesting article on Tencel. My Tencel is lighter in weight and cooler. Not an expert, just stating that is the way mine is.

Seems like it would do both. Most I’m seeing is 4oz or so. You guys like the way it feels?

Since I am not a denim expert I do not know about all this “oz. language” of which you speak. I see it refers to the weight of the denim but I have never noticed that in descriptions. Perhaps I just overlooked it. Nice to be chatting with the pros and seeing what the experts think.

Denim weights anywhere between 8 ounces and even up to 20 ounces.
20 ounces is quite rare, it’s an extremely heavy denim, the jeans almost stand up by themselves. The average raw men’s jeans are about 12 oz.
Just to get an idea check out the Naked and Famous website.

The heaviest pair of jeans I personally own are the Raleigh 14 ounce men’s. They are drop-dead the best and sturdiest selvedge jeans I have ever worn and it is taking me for-ev-er to break them in. Yeah, also because I am so fickle and don’t wear those as much as I should… AND because it is way way toooooo hot to even think about those right now LOL

me, gimme heavy weight, 100% cotton good old denim anytime LOL
skinny stretchy jeans, tencel, light weight is all good if you are a fashion person.

But denim heads like me, we love our denims un-touched and no ready made softness. The softness comes when you wear in your raw jeans, which ight take years…

I like the feel OK. The first ones I got with tons on tencel were ones I ordered online. I was not paying close attention to the composition of the fabric when I bought them. They do not feel as authentic as other denim to me. I think I prefer a small amount of tencel if I go with denim that has any tencel mixed in. If there is a fair amount of tencel I kinda think of it as a hybrid jean.

What style or brand would you recommend for lightweight denim?

I love me some jeans, but in the dead of summer find myself in cargo shorts to avoid sweating through my jeans.

Any and all suggestions welcome 🙂

Most of the brands I have that are lightweight seem to just carry chick clothes.

This looks like it may be lightweight (but it is not “blue” jeans), but again, I am not an expert~

oh and just FYI – the world’s heaviest denim – 32oz:
    http://nakedandfamousdenim.com/news/32oz-japanese-selvedge-denim/

Now, Scot, as for lightweight denim, why don’t you get some tencel pants – they have some very uncool ones at J.C Penney! (this is just to pull your leg J)

But if you insist: 5oz jean Naked and Famous, Topman has some light weight with stretch that are actually pretty cool and super reasonable for $50, and these from Tommy Bahama, 9.5oz are not that heavy, either.

About the weights, i think middle weight is the best option, comfy to wear yet creating stiff creases, best for fading process!

      Medium weight does offer flexibility.

I usually go with medium to somewhat light denim. Nice to have a variety of weights.
