Fall has officially arrived. And talking about denim, the most relevant fact is that Fall 2026 denim is not about one replacement fit. The big shift is toward more polished, intentional jeans: straight, slim/cigarette, bootcut, dark indigo, plus selectively oversized styles.

Here’s all about the most relevant denim styles for this fall and winter:

1. Dark-indigo straight leg – the easiest update
Deep, saturated indigo is probably the most useful fall purchase. Wear it with loafers, boots, leather jackets, blazers, or chunky knits.

2. Modern bootcut – very much back
Not the extreme early-2000s version. Look for a clean, relatively slim leg that opens slightly below the knee, preferably in a darker wash.

2a. Bootcut + low rise
For a more fashion-forward look, low-rise bootcut is showing up again.

3. Slim / cigarette – the “new skinny”
This is the most important silhouette shift. Think slim through the leg rather than spray-on skinny.

4. Relaxed straight – vintage 501 shape
A great middle ground if you’re not up for too skinny or too baggy. True-blue, slightly relaxed straight jeans are definitely a Fall 2026 wardrobe staple. The 501’s are especially relevant right now because the season is moving toward straight, vintage-inspired, less exaggerated denim.

5. Wide-leg – absolutely relevant
Don’t throw out your wide-leg jeans. The change is that Fall 2026 wide-legs are often more polished: both in a higher waist as well as really low-rise. The fit is more trouser-like than extremely slouchy.

6. Colored and earth-tone denim
Brown, olive, tobacco, grey, and red are giving Fall 2026 denim more personality. Earth tones in particular are being highlighted as a major seasonal direction.

7. Distressed jeans – yes, still!
Ripped and distressed denim has not disappeared. The trick is pairing them with something polished.
