Ralph Lauren’s latest collaboration with Naiomi Glasses, a seventh-generation Diné (Navajo) weaver, is part of their Artist-in-Residence program and has garnered significant attention.
The third drop of this collaboration, expected in August 2024, continues to showcase the intricate and culturally rich designs that reflect Navajo weaving traditions. This collection, named “Denim Dream,” is a tribute to Glasses’ heritage and features garments with traditional Navajo patterns and symbols, blending them with Ralph Lauren’s classic American fashion aesthetic.
Each drop in the series has been crafted to highlight both the beauty and the utility of Indigenous designs, with pieces like woven jacquard coats, velvet tops, and knits that incorporate Navajo symbols such as spider woman crosses and dragonflies. The collaboration is deeply personal, with Glasses drawing inspiration from her family’s traditions and the landscapes of the Navajo Nation.
The campaign supporting this collection is equally noteworthy, featuring Indigenous photographers and filmmakers, further emphasizing the importance of authentic representation in fashion. Proceeds from this collection will benefit Change Labs, a Native-led organization supporting small businesses in Navajo and Hopi communities, aligning with Ralph Lauren’s ongoing efforts to engage with and support Native communities.
This collaboration not only highlights the importance of preserving cultural heritage but also brings traditional Navajo craftsmanship to a global audience in a modern and accessible way.
