Hiut Denim Co. is a British brand specializing in high-quality jeans, rooted in the rich textile heritage of Cardigan, a small town in West Wales. Historically, Cardigan was home to Britain’s largest jeans factory, producing 35,000 pairs weekly for nearly four decades. However, in 2001, the factory closed, leading to the loss of 400 jobs—10% of the town’s population.
In 2012, David and Clare Hieatt founded Hiut Denim Co. with the mission to revive Cardigan’s denim industry and reemploy the skilled artisans, known as “Grand Masters,” who had been left without work. Their philosophy centers on producing the best jeans possible, focusing solely on this product to ensure exceptional quality.
