Levi’s S/S 2024 Made In Japan Capsule

Levi’s latest launch is like a bespoke denim dream for denim lovers, the Made in Japan collection. Featuring amazing color patches, artful embroidery techniques, and fresh finishes, this collection offers a modern take on beautiful Japanese fabrics that have become some of the most coveted fabrics in the world.

After denim manufacturing made its way to Japan during the WWII-era of rationing machinery, Japanese craftspeople began making fabrics with old shuttle looms by hand. Building on the American style of denim-manufacturing, they applied their traditions of intricate craftsmanship and constant refinement of techniques over time. Today, Japanese denim is one of the most coveted fabrics in the world and the Levi’s® brand, through its Made in Japan collections, continues to build on the Japanese approach to crafting denim. With gorgeous color patches, artful embroidery techniques, and fresh finishes, the 2024 Spring/Summer Made in Japan collection offers a modern take on beautiful Japanese fabrics.

The foundation of the Levi’s® 2024 Spring/Summer Made in Japan is premium selvedge denim, sourced from the renowned Hiroshima-based Kaihara Denim Mill. Known for impeccable attention to detail and unrelenting dedication to tradition – including the use of vintage shuttle looms – their unique in-house rope dyeing technique helps them achieve beautiful shades of indigo denim that only become more beautiful with time and wear. The Levi’s® brand also partners with SAAB, a sewing and finishing company that cuts, sews, and hand finishes each piece from the collection. These seasoned artisans painstakingly and expertly transform cotton into modern works of wearable art.

Featuring beautiful Japanese denim with crisp shading, the Levi’s® 2024 Spring/Summer Made in Japan collection adds bold yet tasteful touches to classic fits. Women’s bottoms, each available in a variety of washes, include the Made in Japan Column, the Made in Japan High Rise Boyfriend, the Made in Japan Barrel, and the Made in Japan High Rise Slim. The Made in Japan Column is offered with unique color embroidery across the legs while the Made in Japan Barrel is offered with a captivating bleached finish. Men’s bottoms include the Made in Japan 1980s 501® jeans, the Made in Japan 505® Regular Fit, the Made in Japan 511™, Made in Japan 512™, and the Made in Japan 502™. A unique take on a timeless garment, the Made in Japan 1980s 501® jeans are offered with either a special “Atlas” patch and repair that forms a distinguishable map of the earth or with a series of small stitches through the leg. Meanwhile, the Made in Japan 505® Regular Fit jeans are offered with the embroidered color patches on a light rinse. For warmer weather, the collection features the 80s 501® Short, offered in both a bleach rinse and light rinse.

The collection’s tops include the Made in Japan Classic Type II jacket for women as well as the Made in Japan Classic Type III and Made in Japan Utility Trucker for men. Offered with colored embroidery, the “Atlas” patching or just a clean, light rinse, the stripped down Utility Trucker is crisp, elegant, and versatile. Arriving with a moody and dark rinse, both the Made in Japan Classic Type II jacket for women and the Made in Japan Classic Type III for men are artfully crafted classics that can be styled with a wide variety of looks. The Made in Japan Classic Type II jacket is also offered with the collection’s distinct colored embroidery. Each garment includes collection-exclusive details like the Made in Japan backpatch, inner label inspired by the Hinomaru (the flag of Japan), and a hidden surprise on the indigo tab.

“With our bespoke Japanese denim as the foundation, the 2024 Spring/Summer Made in Japan collection is brought to life with colored embroidery and a unique approach to patch and repair,” said Paul O’Neill, Design Director at Levi Strauss & Co. “Featuring a range of simple as well as intricate finishes, the collection builds on Japanese craftsmanship to offer elevated pieces with a modern edge.”
